Pregnancy Personal Trainer: London

Traditionally, there’s been a tendency to consider someone who’s pregnant to be fragile – in need of protection and rest. For the overwhelming majority of women, this simply is not true.

Staying active through the different stages of pregnancy doesn’t just benefit fitness levels – it’s also an absolutely essential part of keeping your mental well-being in check, maintaining your energy, and paving the way towards a quick recovery when your little one arrives.

We realise you might not feel completely yourself as your body changes but don’t worry – at Fitness Lab you’ll have a dedicated personal trainer working with you at your pace in your own private studio space.

Depending on your specific stage, you might like to read more about prenatal personal training or postnatal personal training - we're here to help you optimise your health and fitness through your whole journey.

Personal Training and More for Pregnant Women

There's more to Fitness Lab than just personal training. Looking after your body throughout your pregnancy involves developing your fitness, making the right nutritional choices, getting the right amount of rest, and seeking out additional therapies if you find you develop aches and pains.

We have expert guidance and support for all of these factors under one roof.

Perhaps you'd like some advice on the best way to eat as your pregnancy progresses? Or maybe you'd like to switch some of your sessions to focus on gentle therapy rather than working out?

We're here to help, whatever the pregnancy rollercoaster has in store for you! Our multidisciplinary team can help you understand what your body needs, be it rest, a different way of eating, or even hands-on therapy from osteotherapists, physiotherapists, or massage therapists.

Experienced Pre and Postnatal Personal Trainers

Pregnancy is a unique time for a person. Your body is changing in ways that do not happen at any other time in your life. There's increasing pressure on different muscles and joints - and you'll almost certainly develop aches and pains as these often weaker areas are forced to carry an additional load and work in different ways.

Of course, the physical part of pregnancy is just one element to consider - you'll almost certainly already know that there are intense hormonal changes happening in your body too.

This is where expert knowledge of a pregnant person's physiology is absolutely essential. This is a level of expert knowledge we're proud to have here at Fitness Lab. As well as the appropriate qualifications, we have thousands of hours of experience training people who are pregnant.

It's important not to assume that just any personal trainer will be able to effectively coach you throughout your pregnancy. You may or may not choose Fitness Lab to have by your side as your body changes - but it's vital that you work with coaches who fully understand the unique challenges that personal training presents for pregnant women.

Personal Training Based on Pregnancy Yoga and Pilates

As you can probably imagine, personal training when you're pregnant doesn't just involve time on a bike followed by time lifting weights. There's a lot more to consider.

Throughout pre, pregnancy, and post-natal training, your coach will work with you to strengthen the muscles that giving birth puts a strain on. This will almost always include techniques taken from prenatal Pilates, postnatal yoga, postnatal Pilates and breathing exercises designed to work on your pelvic muscles.

The importance of this core stability cannot be underestimated. It won't just make a difference to for mums to be giving birth - it will also make a huge difference to your physical recovery after baby has arrived.

Personal Training vs Exercise Classes

London has plenty of pre and post-natal exercise classes - and they're a great way to stay social and keep your activity levels up while you're expecting. However, if you're looking for the most meaningful way to stay fit and prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy, nothing beats individual personal training.

At Fitness Lab, we don't think about group fitness - we think about you, your levels of fitness, your lifestyle, your fitness knowledge, and your exact stage of pregnancy.

By doing this, we create personal training sessions that are tailored to meet your needs exactly. We're by your side from the earliest stages of pregnancy - and our approach changes as your pregnancy progresses.

Training Safely in Your Own Private Space

If the idea of going to a public gym doesn't appeal to you, it's unlikely to feel any more appealing when you're pregnant!

At Fitness Lab, you don't have to worry about working out in a public gym. There's no queuing for aerobic exercise machines or the need to wipe down weight training equipment. Here, you have your own private 'pod' - and it's exclusively yours the whole time you're here.

Your personal trainer is focused entirely on you while you're here too - so you can be 100% confident that you're training is completely safe. You can even take advantage of our kit washing and ironing service - so you don't have to worry about packing your gym bag when you leave the house!

Radomira is a great coach. Highly motivating, fun, excellent listener, sessions with her are never boring. She know how to push people out of the comfort zone without forcing them. Rare quality for a coach. The studio itself is optimally located at the heat of Soho and is very well equipped. The concept of a coach-only gym is not common and probably the best option for anyone who take their fitness seriously.

I have been with Fitness Lab for 2 years it has been a gradual transition to strength and fitness working with my excellent trainer Ash. It isn’t a quick fix to weight loss but a longer term investment in being a stronger me. With the individual focus I just don’t have to think about having to motivate myself, or worry about whether I am using the weights correctly, Ash takes care of that and gradually pushes me to push myself.

I chose Fitness Lab because the idea of a gym with a more intimate atmosphere, free from overwhelming crowds was very appealing to me. Originally, I planned to join for just a couple of months to get ready for summer, but here I am in November, still committed! The primary reason for that is my PT Radomira, who creates a customised program that suits my individual goals, always motivates me without pushing too hard and makes each session enjoyable and uplifting. I can actually see the progress and am very happy that I ended up choosing this gym.

I would absolutely recommend Fitness Lab to anyone who is looking get the best PT experience in London. It really helps to be working out in a private space rather than in a public gym and the facilities and equipment are all first-rate and well-maintained. I have to give a huge thank you to my PT, Ash, who has turbo-charged my training. He has put the time, effort and his knowledge into tailoring my workouts to achieve my goals. I don't feel like I'm aimlessly working out or unsure of whether I'm doing the right thing or not anymore and the results have been fantastic. I'm improving in areas that I have always struggled with and it just makes me even more motivated. Ash always brings the right vibe so that I look forward to each session rather than it feeling like a chore. He keeps the workouts varied to make things interesting and if there is ever something I can't do because of injury then he is able to adapt when necessary. The whole experience at Fitness Lab has been fantastic.

The private personal training here helped me gain control of complicated back issues and get back to playing rugby for the first time in years! My PT was so focused on specifics for my situation and the results speak for themselves. They are so well located for a lunchtime session from work. In my opinion the best personal training studio in Soho!

Frequently Asked Questions

Unless you have specific advice from your GP saying otherwise, exercising during pregnancy is perfectly safe. In fact, NHS guidelines say that staying active through pregnancy makes it easier for the body to adapt to its changing shape and weight – as well as helping to cope during labour.

Exercise can also result in improved circulation – as well as helping with healthy weight loss after childbirth. There are also countless studies that show exercise can result in more energy and less stress – all vital parts of being a new parent!

If you have specific concerns, you’re completely welcome to get in touch and talk to one of the Fitness Lab team. There’s absolutely no obligation to commit to personal training and your enquiry will be handled with the strictest of confidence.

There are two things to consider when looking for a good pregnancy personal training service near to you.

Firstly, you should consider the qualifications of the people you trust with health advice. We have personal trainers who are specifically qualified to support people before pregnancy, through pregnancy, and when recovering from pregnancy. Of course, this should never supersede medical advice - but a depth of understanding about what your body is going through is very important.

Secondly, you should find a service with the kind of environment that works for you. Some people like group classes or busy gyms - whereas others prefer the privacy and focus of 1-1 coaching in a private studio. There's no right or wrong on this point - just what works for you. At Fitness Lab, we find that our three locations (Mayfair, Soho and Fitzrovia) and a private 1-1 coaching environment that can easily adapt to your minute-by-minute needs works well for our clients - but ultimately, the environment has to be right for you.

If you're looking for a pregnancy personal trainer, we'd recommend visiting and experiencing the trainers or studios that appeal to you. A consultation will usually be free - and it gives you a really good chance to decide if you like the coaches, feel comfortable in the environment, and feel confident in the qualifications and experience the individual or team possesses.

We have two personal trainers with a specialist qualification in pre natal exercise and post natal training sessions. To complement this qualification, they also have extensive real-world experience working with fitness training clients through each trimester.

Rest assured, you’re in expert hands when our team put together an exercise programme to take you through pregnancy and beyond.

While we definitely encourage everyone to continue training before, during and after their pregnancy, to keep their body strong and healthy, it’s all about doing what feels right for you and your body.

Our trainers can help at every stage of pregnancy. Some of our pre and postnatal clients were already training with us and kept training, before, during and after their pregnancy. Others come to us when they find out they’re pregnant, for guidance on how to work out in a safe and effective way. We also meet women much later on in their journey, who are looking to get back into fitness after a break.

We don’t. We realise that pregnancy group training can be a great social experience – but when it comes to exercising in a way that’s exactly right for you, there’s nothing that comes close to personal training.

Working with a personal trainer is the only way to make sure your workout is tailored to you and your exact needs. Constant observation and communication is an essential part of making sure your workout is right too – and that can be lost with group gym instructing.

Pregnancy comes with a set of challenges that lots of people get red-faced talking about! Aside from the fact that baby will often rest on your bladder, pregnancy and childbirth also take their toll on your pelvic floor muscles.

The result? Frankly – peeing might sometimes feel like it’s out of your control! If you have an accident or a near-miss in one of our private studios – we can assure you it won’t be the first time (and it definitely won’t be the last).

So, what happens if you pee? Honestly – nothing. We’ll clean up, laugh together, and carry on. Pregnancy is a magical experience – but with mums and dads on our team, we know it’s got its moments!
